Lead Guide - Toronto   $200,000 CAD Salaried employee

Description

  • On-site in Toronto, Canada
  • $200,000 CAD/year

The most supportive thing you can do for a struggling 8-year-old is refuse to lower the bar. If that makes you uncomfortable, this isn't your role. If it makes you nod, keep reading.

Alpha has torn up traditional instruction. Students learn academics through adaptive apps at their own pace. No lectures. No grade-level ceilings. What remains, and what matters most, is what software can't deliver: the life skills, the motivation, and the adult who holds every student to a standard they didn't think they could reach. That's what you own.

Your morning might start coaching a Guide through their Coachbot analytics, pinpointing where a cohort is slipping. By midday you're leading a live workshop with K-8 students, running a playbook activity on public speaking or giving feedback. Afternoons shift to motivation sessions: pulling up each student's progress data, deploying Alpha's incentive system (school currency, leaderboards), and getting a resistant 7th grader back on track. Forty percent workshops, thirty percent motivation, thirty percent coaching. You carry your own student cohort the entire time, so you're never coaching from theory.

You've probably been told you're too focused on results for education. Too data-driven. Too willing to hold a line that makes other adults uncomfortable. Alpha is built for exactly that person. You prove the model works with your own students, raise the Guides (Alpha's equivalent of teachers) around you to the same standard, and as you deliver results, your influence over campus-wide program quality grows.

Hold the standard. Change the student. Apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Leading one-hour live workshops on life skills (public speaking, focus, giving and receiving feedback) for K-8 students, following Alpha's playbook
  • Running motivation sessions using Coachbot analytics and Alpha's incentive system (school currency, leaderboards) to drive 100% student goal completion
  • Coaching Guides on program fidelity and standards enforcement, with every session producing concrete improvement actions
  • Maintaining your own student cohort so your coaching stays grounded in firsthand experience
  • Tracking student satisfaction scores, goal completion rates, and Guide performance metrics weekly to catch underperformance early

What you will NOT be doing

  • Teaching math, reading, or any academic subject — adaptive apps handle all academic instruction
  • Writing curriculum or inventing workshop activities (Alpha's playbook is your operating system; the bar is execution quality)
  • Coaching Guides on teaching technique (Guides don't teach — you're coaching energy, motivation, and accountability)
  • Managing campus operations, budgets, or administrative logistics
  • Softening standards when a student is close but not there (the bar stays fixed; your job is to get them over it)

Key responsibilities

Deliver Alpha's three promises to every student: loving school, learning at twice the traditional pace, and building real-world life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • On-site in Toronto, Canada (not remote or hybrid)
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Business, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in education, learning and development, coaching, or a related field
  • Led a team of 5 or more people, including hiring and terminating based on performance outcomes
  • Direct experience working with youth ages 5-14 in an educational or developmental setting
  • Built, launched, or significantly grew a program, team, school, or initiative — not just inherited or maintained one
  • Comfortable working in a school that explicitly rejects traditional pedagogy
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada

Nice to have

  • - Master's degree in Education, Psychology, Organizational Leadership, or a related field
  • Coached athletics, led experiential programs, directed camps, or ran youth programs at a scale that required managing cohorts and measuring outcomes
  • Left classroom teaching to build or run programs from a different seat (EdTech, tutoring businesses, youth nonprofits, school intervention teams)
  • Experience using learning analytics platforms to make weekly coaching decisions
  • Belief that the current education system is fundamentally broken and personal investment in rebuilding it
