The worldβs billionaires don't have any. Donald Trump cares about them. And if you donβt have one, you may suspect itβs limiting your potential. This week I'm talking about degrees & inequality.
Hey, Welcome Back!
What does a degree prove?
Surely, itβs evidence of how smart you are, or how well you can do your job. That must be why companies insist on certain degrees in their hiring processes.
Youβd think. π€¨ But thatβs not the case.
The paper ceiling exists despite the growing mountain of evidence showing that all it does is keep skilled people out of good jobs.
Itβs why your application is trashed long before you get to meet a hiring manager.
Itβs why π§ Bonnie booksmart is hired over π¨β𦱠Salvatore streetsmart.
β No degree. No entry.β
The financial implications will make your jaw hit the floor.
Practical experience has been worth less than academic knowledge for a long time. Itβs become quite nonsensical, especially in a digital world where anyone can learn anything, whenever they want.
ππ And aside from heart surgeons or bridge architects, having a piece of paper that declares your competency is bizarre, outdated and pointless.
How many qualified linguists do you know working in real estate? Or fine art grads who have channeled creativity into becoming top chefs?
π§Ύ Thirty years experience should mean MORE than a piece of paper.
Luckily, laws are being changed as we speak to address this injustice.
Itβs episode 42 and this week itβs a showdown between job experience and those insanely expensive bits of paper that grant us access and privilege in the working world: πDEGREES.π
Itβs an old problem repackaged as a new one β the haves π the have nots. This is the paper ceiling episode!

The reality is that there are better, newer and more accurate ways to find out if someone is a good fit for a great job.
Degrees are not it.
π Could there be an answer right under our noses?
Join me as I tear the paper ceiling open to fight for your right to learn-on-the-job, AND to advocate for a stronger system that is backed by concrete evidence.
Discover the future of degree-free job applications in this episode.
π Enjoy!
To testing your limits,
