Everything is new this episode, from my house to the new studio set.
I’ve spent one of the most intense holiday periods of my life decking this place out. It’s officially one of the coolest remote work pads in the Southern Hemisphere.
It’s episode 20, and I’m not just talking about remote work, I’m living the remote work life. You’ll be seeing a lot more of that from me this year. I have some truly magnificent announcements to share with you.
✨ Here’s what’s happening in 2023 –
That Remote Life: Working for Change
Quick reality check, yes the set you see on OOO is my actual home.
The ferns are real, even the light panels were installed just for you. Like a lot of remote workers, I kept working through the holidays.
I planned to take some time off during the move, but I got so excited about the episodes coming in 2023 I kept going.
What can I say? 🐰⚡ The Energizer Bunny has nothing on me.
So I have three big announcements this week. Big.
1️⃣ We’re Bringing OOO to You
Is it a bird? A plane? Or Out of Office winging its way to your city?
It’s official, I’m leaving my home office and I’m hitting the road this year. Our community is about to reach a whole new level, as I visit as many remote work hotspots as I can.
🤝I want to meet the remote workers where you live. I want to meet you.
Along the way, I’m going to show you the reality of what remote work looks like in different parts of the world.
You’ll see everything – the good, the bad and the ugly. I want to hear about the things that impact you, as a pioneer of remote work in your area.
We have millions of people in our community and most of them don’t live in the US. So, while the news has largely been US-based, we’re going to change that.
2️⃣ My Quest for a Name Change
My second announcement is that I’m ditching remote work.
A couple weeks ago, we released an episode about renaming remote work – and it became one of the most successful episodes we’ve ever done.

That was all the evidence I needed to begin my personal crusade to find a better name for remote work. I’ve set up a new Twitter channel where I’m tweeting better names for remote work every single day.
You can follow it here.
I’ll post a new idea daily until the world takes notice. I’m not sure yet what will come of this – a sit down special with Oprah maybe, or an Elon Musk endorsement.
Possibly a showdown between all suggestions, culminating in the worldwide adoption of a better term by the Oxford Dictionary.
Anything is possible!
One way or another, we’ll find a term that launches an age of WFH freedom.
3️⃣ A Hypergrowth Remote Community
Out of Office is already one of the fastest growing remote worker communities ever.
We’ve done 20 episodes, and 4 MILLION people have tuned in to watch them!
It’s just staggering.
In 2023, I want to use this community for good.
Let’s take the next step together and become a thriving hub, where remote workers everywhere can talk about the stuff that matters. Let’s organize on a massive scale and create real, lasting change for other remote workers around the world.
Let’s think big.
- Petition governments to let people work remotely on a tourist visa
- Fix outdated tax laws that negatively impact remote workers
- Set standards and playbooks that close the pay gap and get you paid better
That time I still owed tax money in NY but I live in NZ…
Every single remote worker deserves a better deal.
You’re a trailblazer, a pioneer. An autonomous force that should be treated fairly no matter where you live! That’s our mission this year.
The combined strength of our voices will be so loud they won’t be able to ignore us.
Together, we can make it happen.
