Blaming the company handbook for your team’s async woes? Time for a new kind of block-buster. Chase Warrington joins Andrew with the answer to unlocking your remote team’s productivity next year.

Hey, Welcome Back!

Does your company handbook block your team from deep work?

Sounds like you need a different kind of block-buster for next year.

So here he is: It’s Chase Warrington!

📓 Chase isn’t just managing a distributed team, he’s redefining the role of company handbooks in the modern remote workplace.

As the Head of Remote at Doist, he’s responsible for 100+ employees across 35 countries. Along with being a LinkedIn Top Voice in Remote Work, he hosts ‘About Abroad,’ a podcast that won him Crossover’s ‘Podcaster of The Year’ title in our inaugural Remote Leadership Awards.

When it comes to trouble-shooting async team problems – he’s a sniper.

🥪 And even though we couldn’t turn Valencia and Auckland into an Earth sandwich, I was eager to hear how Chase solves global remote management challenges.

Confusion, time zone delays and virtually tapping team members to ask for help – these are the blocks that keep your global team from performing at their best.

The #1 key to unlocking these problems? Documentation.

😩 Vibe check: Updating the company handbook is nobody’s dream job.

And that’s left many remote teams dysfunctional and disillusioned when trying to use theirs. But few things are more important than a functional handbook that keeps your people moving forward.

Chase experienced this first-hand at Doist as the Head of Remote.

Questions arose like:

📖 How do we centralize company information?

🤷‍♀️ How do we properly understand how our people engage with that information?

🕹️ How can we make it better?

His goal was to expose the blockers that were slowing his team down – and figure out a way to make the company handbook a core feature of his distributed team philosophy: autonomy first!

It’s episode 52 and I’m talking to Chase about documentation and productivity.

We read between the lines and go deep into what it takes to put an AMAZING company handbook together.

From team pulse check surveys, to assigning responsibility and how that worked at Doist, get visual insight into text-based documentation that often goes wrong.

As Chase says, “What got us here, won’t get us there.”

🛣️ Turn these roadblocks into an information superhighway with today’s episode on creating, maintaining and managing your distributed team with a company handbook.

Good news! It’s easier than ever before.

📽️ This Week on Episode 52:

🎓 Learn why your handbook should be a living document, not a dusty relic

✨ Unlock explosive remote productivity with company handbook insights

🔥 Get 3 hot tips that will keep your handbook fresh, accessible and impactful

💡 Unveil the mystery of who really rules the handbook pages

🤖 Explore how AI is becoming the new Shakespeare of documentation

Chase has just published a guide to creating a company handbook based on his real-world experience at Doist.

⚡ Get it here! ⚡

A big thank-you to Chase Warrington for sharing his expertise and insights on Out of Office. We’ve certainly levelled up our company handbook game since the discussion.

🚫 If your weekly standups feel more like a digital block party, watch this episode to join the documentation revolution.

It’s going to come in handy as you shift into high gear in 2024.

🌎 Enjoy!

Go global –

Andrew
