Elite Performance Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site at Alpha School locations: New York City, NY · Orange County (Lake Forest), CA · San Francisco, CA · Santa Barbara, CA
  • $150,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Health benefits begin on day one.
  • Relocation assistance provided

You've reached the top tier of a brutally competitive arena—elite sports, a distinguished degree from a leading university, a role at a highly selective organization, or a venture you launched and grew yourself. You understand what separates participation from real competition. Now consider channeling that drive into a setting where K-12 students gain access to someone with your caliber of experience, someone determined to push them toward standards they never imagined reaching.

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1:1 instruction, allowing students to complete core academics in roughly two hours daily. The remainder of each day is dedicated to life skills, self-directed projects, and meaningful personal development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments establish the benchmark—someone capable of assessing group dynamics, defining expectations, and guiding them through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.

Your role is not to instruct academics; it is to coach, challenge, and maintain the same exacting standard you've applied to yourself. Approximately 80% of your time will be devoted to direct 1-on-1 sessions, small-group coaching, and life-skills workshops. The remaining 20% involves establishing the daily tone through disciplined morning sessions that create a culture intolerant of mediocrity.

The trajectory here is not about advancing into management. It centers on depth of impact. You begin by mastering Alpha's methodology and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they rely on to push them beyond perceived limits. The return is not a title. It is witnessing a student who avoided eye contact in September confidently address a room full of adults by May.

If you've been seeking a way to leverage your elite experience for impact beyond your own credentials, submit your application now. If you require a scripted curriculum, a conventional classroom structure, or a route to administrative leadership, this is not the right fit.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching that identifies individual obstacles, establishes ambitious targets, and enforces accountability for student execution
  • Leading structured life-skills workshops designed for skill mastery rather than engagement alone, drawing on authentic examples from your own elite background
  • Evaluating student mastery using platforms like Test2Pass and monitoring progress through Coachbot analytics to refine coaching approaches in real time
  • Establishing campus-wide cultural expectations each morning via focused kickoffs that embed high-performance norms
  • Cultivating trusted mentorship with students and their families through unwavering standards, consistency, and documented motivation strategies

What you will NOT be doing

  • Developing lesson plans, creating curriculum, or evaluating assignments. Alpha's academic system operates independently.
  • Presenting lectures to large classrooms of 30 students. Your focus is intensive coaching in small settings, not traditional teaching.
  • Supervising other staff or pursuing an administrative career path. This position prioritizes direct student influence over organizational advancement.
  • Attending routine faculty meetings or dealing with institutional bureaucracy. Your schedule remains centered on student engagement.
  • Compromising standards to meet quotas. If a student achieves 99%, your responsibility is identifying what prevented 100%.

Key responsibilities

Deliver outstanding student motivation, development, and life-skill proficiency at Alpha's most demanding campuses.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one documented instance of exceptional achievement in a highly competitive, internationally recognized field (examples include: national or international competition medals, distinguished performance at a top-tier university, employment at a highly selective firm or fellowship, training at an elite performing arts institution, or founding and scaling a successful venture)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership positions where you demonstrably elevated others' performance
  • Availability to work on-site at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY; Orange County (Lake Forest), CA; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA
  • Authorization to work legally in the United States

Nice to have

  • History in elite competitive athletics (varsity Division I, national team representation, or professional competition) combined with coaching or mentoring experience for younger athletes
  • Professional background in high-accountability sectors such as management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
  • Proven youth development record through mentorship outside traditional academic contexts (community programs, after-school initiatives, sports camps)
  • Confidence engaging with and earning the trust of high-expectation families investing in premium private education
