Instructor de Habilidades para la Vida   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position at Alpha School's campus in Dorado, Puerto Rico
  • Compensation: $100,000 annually ($50/hour, 40 hours/week), with weekly payment
  • Spanish fluency beneficial; formal teaching certification not required

The greatest support you can offer a student who reaches 99% of their target is to withhold approval until they reach 100%. If that principle feels uncomfortable, this position will not suit you. If it resonates because maintaining high standards demonstrates your belief in a child's capability, continue reading.

Alpha School operates on the 2 Hour Learning framework: students in grades K-8 complete a full day's worth of academic content in approximately two hours using adaptive learning technology. There are no lectures or textbooks. Your responsibility centers on what the software cannot provide — guiding students through essential life competencies including public speaking, concentration, collaboration, and constructive feedback exchange.

Approximately 60% of your time will be dedicated to individual student motivation: reviewing learning app dashboards and Coachbot data, identifying where an 8-year-old struggles with fractions or a 5th grader resists reading assignments, then facilitating their progress. The remaining 40% involves facilitating interactive, hour-long workshops that resemble improv practice sessions more than conventional classroom instruction. All students must demonstrate mastery via Test2Pass assessments prior to advancement.

This position offers growth. You will oversee a small cohort and internalize Alpha's methodology during your first year. Demonstrate the ability to guide every student to 100% goal completion while maintaining strong satisfaction metrics, and advancement opportunities open to Lead Guide, followed by Campus Lead (responsible for entire school operations). You will witness a child who avoided eye contact in September deliver a poised presentation to an audience of parents by spring.

Apply if you believe placing 30 children in rows to listen passively to one adult fails to honor their potential.

What you will be doing

  • Guiding K-8 students individually and in small groups through adaptive learning platforms, leveraging Coachbot analytics and dashboards to identify learning obstacles and their causes
  • Implementing Alpha's motivational system (leaderboards, incentive structures, weekly objective-setting) to ensure every student progresses at the target rate
  • Facilitating hour-long, experiential life-skills workshops covering public speaking, concentration, teamwork, and feedback exchange (project-driven and interactive, never lecture-based)
  • Conducting Test2Pass mastery assessments and maintaining standards: students advance only after demonstrating genuine comprehension
  • Establishing rapport with students so rigorous accountability becomes motivational rather than discouraging

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering lectures or traditional academic instruction (students acquire core content through adaptive applications, not instructor-led teaching)
  • Creating lesson plans from the ground up — Alpha supplies curriculum and implementation guides; you deliver them with enthusiasm and narrative skill
  • Evaluating homework assignments or preparing students for standardized examinations; these activities do not exist in this model
  • Handling parent communications or school administration — Campus Leads manage these areas, allowing you to concentrate on your cohort
  • Providing passive supervision of students using laptops; active coaching is the core function of this role

Key responsibilities

Guide a cohort of K-8 students to achieve 100% of their academic and life-skills objectives.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work in-person at Alpha's Dorado, Puerto Rico campus
  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • 3+ years of direct, hands-on experience with K-8 (kindergarten through 8th grade) students via teaching, tutoring, youth programming, camps, or sports coaching
  • Demonstrated record of high personal achievement in academic, athletic, or professional domains
  • Authorization to work legally in the United States or Puerto Rico without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish to strengthen connections with students and families in the Dorado area
  • Background in coaching environments where elevated standards produced quantifiable results (competitive athletics, debate, performing arts, or selective youth initiatives)
  • Experience leading youth workshops, summer camps, or after-school programming where you designed activities rather than merely overseeing them
  • Knowledge of adaptive or app-based learning systems (e.g., Khan Academy, IXL, DreamBox)
