Youth Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
  • $100,000 annual compensation, distributed weekly, with health benefits included

Most educators burn energy battling bureaucracy. Crafting lesson plans that vanish into filing systems. Enduring committee meetings that produce no real change. You recognized years ago that this isn't the work. The work is the student sitting in front of you.

Alpha's model assigns academic instruction to software. Adaptive applications guide each learner through coursework at an individualized pace. No traditional lectures, no assigned homework, no tests to grade. This structure liberates you to focus on what genuinely transforms lives: facilitating life skills workshops where teens develop public speaking ability, concentration techniques, and feedback literacy, then providing personalized coaching to maintain their drive and achieve learning milestones. You'll spend half your time leading group sessions. The other half involves one-on-one conversations with students, analyzing their Coachbot metrics to pinpoint obstacles and root causes.

After every workshop, students complete a mastery-based evaluation. You should earn strong approval from 90%+ of participants. Every student should be making measurable progress in their learning applications. These aren't stretch targets—they define the standard. Maintaining rigorous expectations demonstrates your confidence in their potential. Through this process, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that captivate teenage audiences, leveraging advanced educational technology, and forming meaningful relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville location neighbors SpaceX. Educational innovation intersects with aerospace ambition, and you'll be the individual fulfilling Alpha's fundamental commitment: learners who are enthusiastic about school, accelerate at double the typical rate, and acquire capabilities with genuine real-world value. If you've been searching for an educational environment aligned with your vision of how schools should function, you've found it.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating hour-long life skills workshops for high school students addressing subjects like public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange, followed by measuring competency via structured Test2Pass evaluations
  • Conducting daily individual motivation sessions guided by Coachbot data to engage with students personally, diagnose barriers in their app-based learning, and help them overcome obstacles
  • Collaborating with students to create personalized motivational frameworks, including reward systems and incentives that encourage autonomous advancement through academic applications
  • Examining curriculum materials and session outlines prior to delivery, then adjusting your approach based on group dynamics and engagement

What you will NOT be doing

  • Instructing core academic content. Software manages mathematics, literacy, and all other traditional subjects.
  • Overseeing school administration or supervising staff. No budget responsibilities, no recruitment duties, no administrative meetings; your complete attention remains on your student group.
  • Enforcing rules through conventional disciplinary measures. No detention assignments, no suspension decisions, no authoritarian directives. You rely on reasoning and affirmative reinforcement to cultivate a respectful, energized learning culture.

Key responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school learners who are passionate about school, achieve 2x learning velocity through adaptive technology, and exhibit mastery of practical life competencies.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • 3+ years of direct experience working with high school students (ages 13-18)
  • Willingness to work on-site in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
  • Legal authorization to work in the US

Nice to have

  • Experience as a sports coach, camp facilitator, or youth program coordinator who has inspired teenagers in non-classroom settings
  • Demonstrated success guiding groups to quantifiable outcomes (completion metrics, performance standards, behavioral improvements)
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning systems or educational technology platforms
  • Narrative skills that command teenage audiences' focus, presented with cultural sensitivity and authentic connection
